How to choose a Latex Mattress

Step 1 – Select your mattress size:

Selecting a mattress size

Size Dimensions
Single 1880 x 915
King single 2030 x 1070
Double 1880 x 1370
Queen 2030 x 1520
King 2030 x 1830
Custom made Made to your measurements

Step 2 – Select the depth of your mattress

200mm (20cm) is the standard mattress depth.  However, if depth available is limited, such as on boats or camper trailers, we offer a 150mm depth mattress.  We also offer a 250mm depth mattress, which offers extra softness.

Step 3 – Select your mattress density:

Hardness Density (kg per cubic metre) Uses
Soft 60 Mattress overlays
Medium 65 Mattresses, lounge seating, overlays
Firm 70 Mattresses, lounge seating, wheel chair cushions
DX Firm 80 Mattresses, lounge seating, wheel chair cushions

What density should I choose?

This depends on your weight and preferred comfort.  People with a high body weight will need a rather firm mattress.  Lighter people, including children and older people, will choose a somewhat softer mattress. A softer Natural Latex mattress will offer the same support as a firm mattress, when correctly matched to bodyweight. Soft density is recommended to be used as a mattress overlay, not in an entire mattress, due to lack of support.

Weight Density recommended
Up to 90kgs Medium
90kgs to 130kgs Firm
Above 130kgs DX Firm

I like soft, and my partner prefers firm.  Which density shall we select?

Generally, you will want to give the larger person the support they need, without compromising comfort for the smaller person.  A  200mm firm density mattress with a 50mm soft top will offer the right support for a larger person, and the right degree of comfort for a smaller person.

Mattress Covering Options

Bamboo Fabric with Luxurious Wool Quilting

Bamboo fabric is made from a natural fibre from the pulp of the bamboo grass.  It is easily our most popular cover.

Bamboo has many unique benefits:

  • light & strong, yet very soft against the skin
  • anti-bacterial qualities, reducing bacteria & odours, ideal for allergy sufferers
  • insulating properties, keeping you warmer in winter & cooler in summer
  • excellent wicking ability, pulling moisture away from the skin. Bamboo is three times more absorbent than cotton, keeping you cool in summer and warm in winter.
Luxurious Wool Quilting

The natural qualities & properties of wool provide unique benefits:

  • thermal & insulating quality cooler in summer & warmer in winter
  • water & fire resistant
  • durable – extremely robust, wool lasts for many years

Tencel Fabric

Tencel is extracted from eucalypt wood pulp and is 100% bio-degradable. The wood comes from sustainable tree farms, which utilise marginal land without too much water use.

It is 50% more absorbent than cotton fabric

Because of its increased absorbency Tencel does not provide an environment suitable for bacterial growth. Synthetic fibres can harbour 2000 times the bacteria found in Tencel.

Tencel is 100% chemical and toxin free, resulting in an irritation-free fabric.

It is suitable for sensitive skin – Tencel fibres are smooth which significantly reduces skin irritation.

Tencel breathes naturally, balancing body temperature and keeping you cooler in summer.

Cotton Fabrics

We offer a few different cotton fabrics as covers for our mattresses.

These fabrics are an economical alternative, ranging from a simple unbleached Cotton Calico, to more colourful printed fabrics.

The printed fabrics are treated with fire retardants for safety.
